IMPACT INVESTING IN AUSTRIA
Our focus is on the research and development of new technologies in collaboration with strong partners in the Austrian healthcare system.
The world is undergoing fundamental and radical changes. At the same time, new technologies are unlocking unprecedented opportunities to find sustainable and innovative solutions. This is precisely where our VENTURE PHILANTHROPY INVESTING approach comes into play. By investing in the future of healthcare, we aim to ensure high-quality care.
Monitoring and further development of innovative digital solutions
Implementation of AI systems to provide accurate diagnoses and improved therapies
Innovative medical projects with experts from the Austrian healthcare system
OUR LATEST PROJECT
PRELIMINARY PILOT STUDY CANCER DATABASE - AKH VIENNA / MEDIUNI VIENNA
Cancer research needs a platform. Not twelve.
aion is the AI-powered infrastructure that enables Austrian university hospitals to manage registries, clinical trials, and real-world analytics for the first time within a single, GDPR-compliant workflow without any system disconnects.
EU countries with organized cancer screening. Austria is missing!
TWiCs Studies Worldwide: None have dedicated software yet
Faster study recruitment through automated eligibility screening
Workflow & requirements validated in a real-world setting
Institutional Mandate: The ACCN has a statutory mandate to establish Austria’s national cancer registry. As part of a preliminary pilot study at the University Clinic for Urology, workflows and clinical conditions were analyzed in a practical context and integrated into the platform architecture.

The Problem
Fragmented systems cost clinical time and patient lives.
Austrian oncology centers manage the same patient data simultaneously in Excel, SPSS, and various siloed systems. The result: duplicate data entry, sources of error, and a research infrastructure that structurally lags behind requirements.
University Professor Dr. Shahrokh F. Shariat (Director of the University Clinic for Urology, Vienna General Hospital) has made several attempts to develop an integrated solution in collaboration with the clinic’s internal IT department. These attempts failed due to the complexity of the requirements and the structural limitations of the hospital’s internal IT capabilities.
“The result was clear: Clinical staff enter the same patient data multiple times into separate, non-interoperable systems. Registries, study coordination, and biobank management operate in parallel without any technical connection.”
Findings from the preliminary pilot study, University Clinic for Urology, Vienna General Hospital / Medical University of Vienna
Current Situation: System Fragmentation
Cancer registry data in Excel spreadsheets
Research Documentation in SPSS
In-house, isolated systems (non-interoperable)
With AION: Enter data once, and all systems are updated.

The Solution
Four functions. One platform.
For the first time, aion integrates legally compliant record-keeping, TWiCs trial logic, federated learning, and GxP-validatable AI analytics into a single architecture. This is not a matter of convenience but a medical necessity.
„We are doing 21st-century research on 20th-century infrastructure."

Austria's strongest possible clinical support.
aion is not being introduced into a hospital as an external product, but rather as a technical response to a legally mandated need for action, and is being developed in collaboration with the National Cancer Network.
